About Us

Back in 1991, we got interested in raising earthworms using wastes from our domestic rabbit herd which was quite large. After opening our first box of 1000 redworms, I was fascinated at how they could turn this so-called waste into saleable products. They began to multiply and convert the bedding into pure castings that we used in some of our houseplants. The results were amazing. African Violets exploded in their pots producing over 100 blossoms for an incredible show. The same was true for our other plants as well.
Soon the population grew to the point that we needed to bring in additional feeds. Several food processors were contacted and we worked out ways to divert their waste materials destined for the landfill into our feed and bedding formulas. After a time, we had some extra stock, we contacted several local bait shops and they were impressed with the quality and freshness, coming right from the farm and bought them often.

We continued to research ways to expand our operations and after several trials we found that the Giant European Redworm offered many of the same qualities but has a much larger size and is much thicker skinned. Since then these “Dutch Crawlers” have commanded the majority of our business for fish bait. The regular redworms are prized for composting and have rightfully earned their reputation!

2 Farms and Growing

We operate our business in 2 separate locations. Our Dutch Crawler bait farm is located at the corporate headquarters near the quaint village of Oostburg in Wisconsin. The redworms are raised about 2 miles down the road near Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. Both villages have rich Dutch heritage and hence the term Dutch Crawlers. The Midwest boasts some of the finest sport fishing around, so our live bait market is right in our backyard. We like it here in Sheboygan County and have plans for expanding our worm farms.

Being 1/2 mile from the western shores of Lake Michigan "The big air conditioner" the temperatures are more moderate than well inland. In the heat of summer, the afternoon lake breeze kicks in, helping keep the worms and the workers comfortable. Additionally, we are surrounded by various livestock operations and an abundance of food processing plants. The supply of feed and bedding for the earth worms is never far away. Because of this ideal location, our costs and overhead is low, helping you get a great value on your live bait.
